Since 1982, Little River has leveraged its natural resources and entrepreneurial spirt to challenge thousands of participants for the annual Suicide Hill Trail Run. Held the last week of May, this 10k reveals the harsh realities of the Kansas terrain deceptively cloaked in the natural beauty of the prairie. The trail run begins innocently enough on Main Street, winds through lush native grassland complete with cowboys and cattle, and crosses two creeks. Then it’s up famed Suicide Hill. What is the top prize for the man and woman who win the grueling run? A cow chip.

For those not competing for the coveted “chip,” the event attracts outdoor enthusiasts of all stripes offering a 10k fun walk, 5k run and the only three-person Pony Express Relay. Special thanks to the Little River Lions Club and local businesses and friends for their continued sponsorship.

TRAIL RUN EVENTS

10K RUN The Original “Suicide Hill Trail Run”, a 10K loop running west of town. The run includes two creek crossings with rolling native hills with cowboys and cattle.

5K RUN It includes the famed “Suicide Hill”, an out and back 5K. The run includes an up and over route of Suicide Hill.

PONY EXPRESS RELAY As far as we know, it is the only one of its kind in Trail Runs. It will cover the 10K course. Three runners must compete as a team. Each runner will cover approximately one third of the course. Batons will be furnished. Get yourself a three man team and compete!

10K FUN WALK For the recreational walker.

One of Kansas’ original Trail Runs that began in 1982. The course includes roadways, rolling native grassland, cowboys, the famed Suicide Hill and start/finish on Main Street. This course is as beautiful as it is demanding and it brings out the best in runners each year.

  • Electronically timed event
  • T-Shirt guaranteed for early entrants, NOT guaranteed for late entrants
  • Race for the coveted “COW CHIP” – awarded to the top 10K male and female winners
  • Medals in each age category for the top three finishers
